Kulturhus Århus was established in 1995 as a municipal institution that produces and organises cultural arrangements. Today Kulturhus Århus is a unique feature of cultural life in Denmark.

Kulturhus Århus develops professional productions of art, contributes with qualified counselling to local/national artists and supports the artistic milieu with practice facilities and project offices. Kulturhus Århus’ aim is to create professional conditions for production of diverse artistic practice. Kulturhus Århus offers a combination of physical settings and well qualified advising and know-how to the city’s cultural entrepreneurs – at the moment Kulturhus Århus works as base for 38 projects. All projects work with different kind of art: Theatre, dance, art and literature. Kulturhus Århus connects the project based culture with the established cultural institutions in the city.

Beside this Kulturhus Århus arranges new cultural initiatives in the world of theatre, dance, music and visual art with national and international collaborators. Kulturhus Århus’ festivals and events are a showcase for culture in the city of Århus. Kulturhus Århus is for instance involved in the following projects: Danserotation, Informal European Theatre Meeting (IETM), Århus’ Citymanagement, Art Crash, Scenekunstfestival (festival of performance art), Kulturama and coordinator of Images of Africa, ArtGenda, Parkunderholdning (park entertainment) and Sommerdans (summer dance).

Kulturhus Århus also functions as administrator of Denmark’s largest bank of technical equipment and as coordinator of Brobjergskolen (project offices) and Ridehuset. Ridehuset is Kulturhus Århus’ scene. In Ridehuset, Kulturhus Århus presents different cultural arrangements; theatre and dance performances, concerts, exhibitions, markets, television transmissions, trade fairs and conferences.

Kulturhus Århus can be defined as both initiator and communicator, capable of working closely with other cultural institutions in the city to develop and establish new platforms for cultural events.
